In 2010, I began to cut hair for people who were house-bound for various reasons and were not able to visit barbershops. After making house calls for about 10 years, I was inspired to create a mobile barber set -an easily transportable set of my hair cutting tools. I named the setup the Mobile Barber Project.

WHO I AM

Takeru Hirata
I started in the barber (hair cutting) business in 2001. Around that time I became interested in creating opportunities for other people that would urge them to start something new. Leading by example, I conceived of and created the Mobile Barber Project.

HOW I DO

I work as a mobile barber about once a month and don’t push myself too hard. I was timid when I started this project but began to feel more rewarded as I continued. Time flies and 10 years have passed already. I would like to keep making a small effort at my own pace.

MESSAGE

One day I decided to greet an old lady in my neighborhood whom I had never talked to. After we talked everyday for a while and got to know each other better, she asked me to cut some high tree branches in her yard. When I helped her cut the branches, she gave me sweet rice cakes.

-This is what I wish to happen more in the world.
I think something good starts from a tiny change we make in our daily life.
